2023 On-Line Auction begins in April 18
Temple Grandin
In 2021 a grass roots initiative was kindled in the lighting industry. Folks came together to form a fundraising initiative called Lights on the Spectrum. It is a simple yet powerful idea…to inspire our colleagues in the lighting industry (those of us with careers that involve the Spectrum of Light) to help people who are on the Autism Spectrum.
The specific intention is to make a positive and noticeable improvement for Neurodiverse people in the area of their employment. Unemployment rates for people on the Autism Spectrum are in the range of 80%. It’s ironic that the rate is so high, given that there is a huge number of available jobs in America. Something is just not right. Valuable talent is being wasted. An opportunity is being squandered.
Lights on the Spectrum brings together:
Lighting Industry Professionals + the Autism Society of America
to improve the lives of People on the Spectrum
A collaboration of:
people working with the Spectrum of Light +
empowering people on the Autism Spectrum
Make a contribution to the initiative and receive recognition for your company or organization and Be a Ray of Light.
The On Line auction features cools lights and experiences that will "light you up". Donate an item and bid and win and know that your effort will make a positive impact.
It's all about employment. The initiative is focused on making massive improvement in the employment futures for people on the Spectrum. Jumpstart your efforts by starting a program at your enterprise. The Autism Society will be by your side bringing resources, support and programs to ensure success for everyone.
Lights on the Spectrum was founded by Larry Berman, a lighting guy for most of his life. He's also the parent of an adult daughter who is on the Spectrum. Larry and his wife Laurie have been involved in the world of autism since their daughter was a young child. She is now married and is a licensed Occupational Therapist, and an Autism Self Advocate. She works in academic settings providing support, guidance, and inspiration to neurodiverse young adults.
Larry created Lights on the Spectrum as a vehicle to focus the vision, power, and energy of the global lighting community and make a brighter future for people on the Autism Spectrum in the specific area of successful employment.
